                                                          THE TWO MIRRORS OF LIFE

Once upon a time, I met a man; He directed my attention to a direction; As I made a turn to the direction, I saw right in front of me a standing mirror; The man then said to me; What did you see? I responded a mirror of course; He said further, draw near to the mirror; this I did. The man now said, look into the mirror very closely, this I complied as well. Now the man said, what did you see in the mirror? I puzzled! Why? I could not but got puzzled as in the mirror, I saw a man looking exactly as myself in all respect of physical appearance but surprisingly wearing a very dirty garment with all kinds of stains! The man now said further, what did you see? I replied that I saw somebody with an appearance resembling me but couldn’t be me because I could not imagine such a garment on myself and therefore the person couldn’t be me! The man now said alright, but that I should turn back at another direction that he pointed to me; Interestingly, now, I saw a similar mirror but this time around, I saw the image of myself exactly as it was in the first mirror but with a similar garment but sparkling white and beautiful to behold unlike the first one. The man now asked, what did you see? I said an image of myself, with a sparkling white garment. I also said, that I believe this is myself! The man now said to me: The two images you saw in both mirrors are the picture of your very self! He said the first mirror is the mirror of life that I am carrying around currently and represents who I am now presently in the mirror of God as he sees me now but that the second mirror is the mirror of life that God wants to make of me. He went further thus: The first mirror reveals your true state of life in the presence of God as you stood, and the second represents what God desires to make of you, if you will allow him! At this point I broke down and bursted in to tears but he said I should not cry and went further thus: Hitherto, you have been going about with your self righteousness, self wisdom, self will, and making your own decision according to your mind and the dictates of your flesh, but I have brought you here to show you the true state of your heart and how you are before the Almighty God who loves you and gave his son Jesus Christ to die for your sins. Furthermore, he said, I have brought you here so that you may exchange your stinking and stained garment and self righteousness with the righteous and unblemished garment of God that are given to all those that have been redeemed through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, I brought you here for a true RECONCILIATION with God and for you to put on the true life, wisdom and holiness of God. Finally he said, all persons born into the world have the garment of sin on them and their lives can be represented by the first mirror of life which you saw. In that state all men are condemned and separated from God because of their sins. However, he said, God promised RECONCILIATION through his son Jesus Christ for all that will believe, follow, and obey the Lord. Suddenly, the man disappeared but I could not explain how I found myself singing a song that for the first time was making a real meaning to me thus: Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saves a wretch like me, I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see….. The bible says that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is the way of death (Prov. 16:25) and that the heart of man is desperately wicked above all things and who can understand it…(Jer 11:9-10) The Bible also says that because God does not want any man to perish, he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and that whosoever believe in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16) However, whoever rejects the salvation of God provided through Christ shall be condemned eternally in Hell (John 3:17-18) The first mirror of life represents the state of every man born into the world as one that is born of sinful woman due to our Adamic nature. In that state, man got separated from God and condemned because of sin (Rom 3:23). But God does not want man to be separated from him as man was originally created to have fellowship with God before the fall of man (Gen 2 and 3). God However, provided a way of RECONCILIATION through Christ but allowed man the free will to make a choice! (John 3:16-18; Rom 3:23; prov. 28:13) The first mirror of life described above also represents the life of hypocracy, self will, self standard and preferences, outright rejection of Christ and self righteousness. How are you faring in all these? The desire of God for your life is what is described in the second mirror of life if you will allow the Lord to do so in your life even as you are being invited now. This is another opportunity reminding you of God’s eternal provision for man’s salvation through the death and resurrection of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ who will also come back for His own (Acts 1:9-11) Ponder over the two mirrors of life above and accept the offer of RECONCILIATION with God if you are yet to do so (John 3:16-18; Rom 3:23; Rom 6:23; Prov. 28:13) or determine prayerfully to carry your cross and follow the master radiating the love and light of Christ as one that is a new creature in Christ if you have truly known the Lord (Mt. 5:13-14; Eph 6:10-18; 2 Cor 5:17) This is an hour of Grace which you cannot afford to miss as you may not be able to tell which will be your last hour of Grace (Isaiah 55:6-7, Rev. 22:11-12)   God bless you
